[Mag is just sitting on the sofa to her house (which is weird, because Mr. Dee said it was hers, or it would be, but it didn't seem familiar at all), clutching onto the umbrella she found earlier. She's fairly calm for all that's happened -- yes, she's in a strange place, with no real idea where her Daddy is. But the policemen seemed nice, even if they said weird things. Not like most policemen, anyway.]

Mag smiled a tiny bit, too. "Okay," she said. "I believe you." And then, because she was fairly sure she hadn't asked yet, "Where are we going?"

"Where are we going?" Dee repeated. Ah, that was a little bit harder to explain. "Well. I know you don't really know me, and this is going to be weird, but can you trust me? We're going to use this device to, er, make a sort of hop from here to there, so we don't have to travel. And I know that sounds crazy, believe me, but, it's the best way to do this--where I live is really far away, and it would take a long way to get there. I promise it'll be quick and won't hurt at all. Is that alright with you?"

Mag was thrown by that. She sort of imagined a really-really-fast car for whatever he was talking about. Or maybe some sort of magic was involved. Either way it all seemed very weird. "Okay," she said, sounding confused.

Dee pulled said object out of his pocket, putting her hand on it. "See, it's just this. You're just going to need to hold onto it at the same time I do, and then it'll take us back to where I came from, which'll probably be right outside my apartment, or somewhere around there. It's, well, it's kinda like magic. The important thing is that you keep your hand on this thing, through? D'you think you can do that?" he asked. He wanted to make absolutely certain that she was okay with this all before he whisked her away on some grand adventure for a few days.

"Um...okay," Mag said, really confused now. She gripped the object, trying to sense anything odd or unusual about it, but there was nothing. "I can do that," Mag promised, holding on tightly.

Dee nodded. At least she was taking him seriously. He was glad that she hadn't transferred to when she was a little older and more skeptical of strange men explaining magical objects to her and vaguely writing off why she woke up in a house without her father to look after her. "Alright, here we go," Dee said, twisting a couple of knobs on the device. "Three, two, one..."

There was a pull from somewhere behind the navel and suddenly, they were in the alleyway beside Dee's apartment building. The sounds of the city filled the area, but luckily, no one had been around to see them. Dee put out a hand to Mag's shoulder, feeling a bit disoriented himself. "You okay?" he asked, gently, knowing that saying they were magically transporting somewhere, and doing it were two entirely different things.

Mag was wobbly, stumbling slightly but catching herself before she toppled. "I-...I think I'm okay," she said, still feeling dizzy. She was still gripping incredibly tight to her umbrella, and used it to lean against for a second to catch herself.

"Hey, it's okay, take your time," Dee said. God, but it was kind of weird to know the adult version of the kid he was talking to and still talk to her like a kid. "We're, uh, in another city than where you were before. A nicer city. You might be able to hear the traffic on the background, yeah?" He kept a hand on her arm, kneeling in front of her, steadying her and waiting until she looked more sure on her feet before he would ask her to move anywhere.

This new city felt very strange. The air smelled -- cleaner? Fresher? And the sun seemed less hot on her skin than it usually seemed to be when she went outside. And it sounded nothing like her world; there was much less commotion.

"Yeah..." Mag said, astonished. "What city is this?"

"Well..." Dee said, hitting another difficult explanation. "It's New York City, but it's not exactly the same New York City that you have where you live. Because, well, I don't really live on the same world you do. Or, well, universe. But it's okay. We can travel between the places. It's just, well, a lot nicer over here than it is where you live. I know that it sounds crazy, but it's true." He smiles at her, his smile showing in his voice. "I'm a man of my word, and I don't lie. You can trust me, Mag."

Mag nodded a little. This was all very very new and very very weird. But she was already there, in this strange (much less filthy) place, so she would buck up and handle it as best she could. And Dee was still being really nice, if really strange, too. "Okay..." Mag said. "I trust you."

"Okay, then," Dee said, with a smile, "that's good, then." He stood up, keeping a hand on her shoulder to show that he wasn't going anywhere, but was just standing up. "Do you wanna go inside, then?" he asked. "Are you hungry at all?" He bet that she hadn't eaten anything at all, not being able to navigate her older self's flat, after all. The poor girl was probably starving by now, unless she had figured out to fend for herself there.

"Yeah," Mag said, admittedly hungry. There hadn't been much food in the fridge of the apartment, and she hadn't been able to reach the cupboards. "I'm a little bit hungry."

"Okay, then, that's a start," Dee said, with a smile. He put his arm close to hers for her to grab on. It wasn't going to be like leading Julie around when he was a kid, because he was much taller than Mag was, but the idea had to be the same this time around too, right? Even if Mag was using an umbrella as a cane; he'd see what he could do about that later, maybe ask mother if she had any old ones lying around or something. "Are you ready to go upstairs? We can decide on what to have while we head up to my apartment, yeah?"

Mag nodded, clinging onto his arm with one hand, umbrella still in the other for feeling out the steps. "I'm ready," she said, voice steady.

Dee led her out of the alleyway, making sure to keep her out of the way of oncoming pedestrians as he made it to the front stoop, warning her of the stairs in front of her before leading her up them at her own pace. He keyed the door open, then sighed. The building didn't have an elevator, and he lived on the third floor. "There's gonna be a lot more stairs before we get to my place. You ready to climb, kiddo? After that, what do you want to eat?" he asked, putting a hand on her hand on his arm, hoping his smile shone through in his voice. "I'm not much of a cook, but I'm sure we can manage something."

"I'm ready," Mag said confidently. There had been lots of stairs at her old apartment, too, and she had gotten good at being able to navigate steps. "Would a sandwich maybe be okay?" She figured that wouldn't be too hard or long to make.

"A sandwich?" Dee asked. "Sure thing, kid, we can make you a sandwich. Even I can't mess up making a sandwich, after all," he said, with a smile. He led her to the stairs, warning her of when they were starting, before leading her up them at her own pace. Her using the umbrella as a cane was really impressive, he had to say.

"Hey, just for these few days, would you like me to see if Mother has an old cane lying around somewhere?" he asked Mag. "I mean, it probably won't be as nice as your one you have normally--it'll be used and old, but. It should be better than an umbrella, right?"
